Common questions

Pick yours — the steps open right here.

Fastest: paste one command into Terminal and press Enter. Lumio installs and opens with no warnings.

curl -fsSL https://lumiomac.com/install.sh | sh

Or open the downloaded app by hand — only once:

  1. Drag Lumio into Applications.
  2. Open it. When macOS stops it, click Done — not “Move to Trash”.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
  4. Click Open Anyway once more and confirm with your password or Touch ID. macOS won’t ask again.

Why does this happen? Lumio is a free app from independent developers, and we haven’t had it notarized by Apple yet.

Lumio lives in the notch and in the menu bar — it has no window.

  1. Move the pointer onto the notch — it opens. Or tap the right ⌥.
  2. Look for the Lumio icon on the right of the menu bar. No icon? Open Lumio from Applications again.
  3. No notch (iMac, external display)? Lumio draws one: a black capsule at the top centre of the screen.
  4. Icon is there but the notch won’t open? Lumio icon → Quit, then open Lumio again.
Did it help?
  1. Click the Lumio icon in the menu bar → Settings (⌘ ,) → Agents.
  2. Next to your agent, click Connect. Codex is found on its own when it’s installed.
  3. Start a new agent session — it appears in the notch and in the office.
  4. “Waiting for the first session” means everything is connected — the agent just hasn’t worked yet.
Did it help?

A permission card appears in the notch when the agent itself asks “may I?”. If the agent is set to do everything without asking, there’s nothing to ask.

  1. Check that the agent is connected: Settings → Agents.
  2. After Connect, start a new agent session.
  3. Claude Code: keep the mode that asks for permission, not “accept everything”.
  4. Codex asks when a command needs to step outside its sandbox.

Once a day Lumio checks for a new version and installs it on its own at launch. By hand: Lumio icon in the menu bar → Version … is available.

Lumio doesn’t update? Most likely it isn’t in Applications — drag it there. Since 1.2 Lumio offers to do it for you.

Settings say “Download verification failed” or the update never arrives? Install the latest version with one command. Your settings stay.

curl -fsSL https://lumiomac.com/install.sh | sh
Did it help?
  1. Settings → Agents → Disconnect next to each agent. Lumio puts their settings files back exactly as they were.
  2. Lumio icon in the menu bar → Quit.
  3. Drag Lumio from Applications to the Trash.

Notes you saved “to Lumio” stay in ~/Library/Application Support/Lumio. Delete that folder if you don’t need them.
